- The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) celebrates its 46th Rise Day on 01 February 2022.
- The ICG was formally established under the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India on February 1, 1977.
- ICG operates under the Ministry of Defense. India has the fourth largest Coast Guard in the world.
- The Ministry of Culture has nominated Hoysala Shrines in Karnataka for UNESCO World Heritage List for 2022-2023.
- ‘Hoysala Sacred Groups’ has been on UNESCO’s provisional list since April 15, 2014.
- The Hoysala temples were formally nominated by UNESCO’s Permanent Representative to India, Vishal V Sharma, on January 31, 2022.
- The Global Center for Affordable and Clean Energy (GCoE-ACE) Indian Institute of Technology, Karnataka has opened at Dharwad (IITDh).
- GCp-ACE will help enhance research on affordable and clean energy; Capacity building and discovering technology to implement renewable energy in the field.
- The facility is set up by the Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation (HHSIF).
- NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd. (NVVN) acquired a 5% equity stake in Power Exchange of India Limited (PXIL) on January 31, 2022.
- NVVN acquired the shares from NSE Investment Limited, a co-advertising partner of PXIL.
- NVVN is a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited formed in 2002. It is one of India’s leading electricity traders.
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) marked its journey in the non-fuel retail sector by opening its retail outlet under the brand name HaPpyShop to make everyday essentials available to its customers.
- The first retail store was opened by HPCL in September 2021 at the company’s retail outlet located at Nepean Sea Road, Mumbai.
- Inspired by this, the company has announced the opening of two more Convenience stores of ‘HaPpyShop’ on January 31, 2022.
World:
- On January 30, 2022, North Korea successfully tested its Hwasong-12 intermediate-range missile from the province of Jahang.
- This is the country’s first nuclear missile test since 2017.
- The Hwasong-12 is estimated to cover a distance of 4,500 km (2,800 miles).
- World Wetlands Day is observed around the world on February 2 every year.
- February 2, 1971 marks the adoption of a conference on wetlands on the shores of the Caspian Sea in the Iranian city of Ramsar.
- World Swamp Day was first celebrated in 1997. 2022 marks the 51st anniversary of the Wetlands Convention.
