1,Revised Guidelines for SPG: Special Force Safeguarding PM to be Led by ADG

The security responsibility of the prime minister, currently undertaken by the Special Protection Group (SPG), will now be overseen by an officer of the Indian Police Service holding the rank of at least an additional director general (ADG). Junior officers will be appointed on deputation for an initial period of six years. The Ministry of Home Affairs recently issued new rules, outlined in a gazette notification under the Special Protection Group Act of 1988 (34 of 1988), establishing these criteria. As per the notification, officers from the All India Services will be selected for deputation to the SPG by the central government, under the same terms and conditions applicable to officers of corresponding ranks in the central government.

2. Goa Statehood Day 2023 observed on 30th May

The smallest state by area, Goa is famous for its beaches and the relics of its colonial past. It got its statehood on May 30, 1987. It was a Portuguese territory since Alfonso de Albuquerque conquered it in 1510 by defeating Adil Shah of Bijapur who was ruling the region. 400 years later, India took back Goa from the Portuguese. This year Goa celebrates its 36th anniversary of  statehood.

3.  CAG Girish Chandra Murmu re-elected External Auditor of WHO for 4 year term

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu has been re-elected as the External Auditor of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for a four-year term from 2024 to 2027. The CAG is already holding this position in the WHO since 2019 for a four-year term from 2019 to 2023. The election was held yesterday in the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly in Geneva. The CAG was re-elected, with an overwhelming majority of 114 out of 156 votes in the first round of voting.

4.India’s GDP Growth Projected at 7.1% in FY23: SBI Ecowrap Report

The latest report by SBI Ecowrap indicates that India’s GDP (gross domestic product) is expected to grow at a rate of 7.1% in FY23, aligning with the second advance estimates released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in February. This projection is in line with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recent statement suggesting that GDP growth for FY23 could surpass the 7% estimate. The report also provides insights into the anticipated growth for Q4 FY23 and FY24, as well as global economic trends and India’s domestic business performance.

5.Indian Bank Joins ICCL as Clearing and Settlement Bank

Indian Bank announced that it has been selected as a Clearing and Settlement Bank by the Indian Clearing Corporation Ltd (ICCL). As a result, this public sector bank is now authorized to provide banking services to members of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for clearing and settlement operations.

6.Govt Approves Digital Communication Framework Between Banks and CEIB

The government has approved a new digital reporting and communication system to address loan defaults exceeding Rs 50 crore. Instead of relying on paper-based communication, the Union government has introduced a digital mechanism. Under this system, the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB) will send digital reports to public sector banks within 15 days of a loan request at the pre-approval stage.

7.Conclusion of the Second G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group Meeting in Rishikesh, India

The Second G20 Anti-corruption Working Group Meeting, held from May 25 to May 27 in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, concluded with productive discussions and key agreements. The meeting witnessed the participation of delegates from 20 member countries, 10 invitee countries, and 9 international organizations. Chaired by Mr. Rahul Singh, Additional Secretary, DoPT & Chair, G20 ACWG, the meeting focused on various crucial areas, including asset recovery, fugitive economic offenders, information sharing, institutional frameworks, and mutual legal assistance.

8.ISRO’s GSLV-F12 Successfully Places Navigation Satellite NVS-01
