OATH, TERM AND SALARY OF PRIME MINISTER

Oath of Office:

The Oath of Office for the Prime Minister of India is administered by the President. The Prime Minister takes the following oath or affirmation, as per Article 75 of the Indian Constitution:

“I, [name], do swear in the name of God/solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties as the Prime Minister for the Union, and that I will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear or favor, affection or ill-will.”

Term of Office:

The term of the Prime Minister is not explicitly defined in the Indian Constitution. The Prime Minister serves at the pleasure of the President, which means the Prime Minister can continue in office as long as they command the majority in the Lok Sabha (House of the People). The term is, in practice, linked to the duration of the Lok Sabha, as the government’s stability relies on maintaining the confidence of the lower house.

If the Prime Minister loses a vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha or if the Lok Sabha is dissolved, the Prime Minister’s term effectively comes to an end. The Prime Minister can resign or be dismissed by the President at any time.

The Prime Minister is entitled to various allowances, including a daily allowance for official expenses, house rent allowance, and other allowances as specified.
