FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARD AUTHORITY OF INDIA

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous statutory body established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It is responsible for regulating and supervising food safety and standards in India.

  4. Structure:
    • FSSAI is governed by a Chairperson and a board of members appointed by the Central Government.
    • The authority consists of various divisions and departments responsible for standards setting, licensing and registration, enforcement, surveillance, research and development, and public awareness.
    • It operates through its headquarters in New Delhi and regional offices located in different states and Union territories of India.
  5. Collaboration and Cooperation:
    • FSSAI collaborates with other government agencies, international organizations, industry associations, and consumer groups to strengthen food safety governance and promote harmonization of food standards.
    • It participates in international forums and committees on food safety and standards to exchange information, share best practices, and contribute to global food safety initiatives.
  6. Public Outreach and Engagement:
