  • Indigenous Development: The network was developed and tested within less than two years of the mission’s launch, showcasing rapid progress in domestic deep-tech capabilities.
  • Defence Application: The 1,000 km link is a precursor to the mission’s final goal of establishing a 2,000-kilometre network for secure communication between distant military and strategic commands.
  • Future Integration: This milestone paves the way for integrating quantum security into the national banking grid and critical infrastructure like power plants.

Topic 3: Discovery of New Marine Nematode Species off Tamil Nadu Coast

Subject: Environment & Biodiversity Syllabus: GS Paper 3: Conservation, Environmental Pollution and Degradation, Environmental Impact Assessment.

Context: Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered two new species of marine nematodes along the coast of Tamil Nadu.

  • Nomenclature: The new species have been named Corononema dhriti (honoring ZSI Director Dr. Dhriti Banerjee) and Epacanthion indica.
  • Ecological Indicators: Marine nematodes are vital bio-indicators; their presence and diversity directly reflect the health and pollution levels of the coastal ecosystem.
  • Unique Features: Corononema dhriti is a benthic species (living on the seabed) that aids in sediment-level nutrient cycling, while Epacanthion indica acts as a microscopic predator.
  • Blue Economy Impact: The discovery strengthens India’s marine biodiversity database, essential for sustainable ocean resource management under the “Blue Economy” framework.
  • Taxonomic Record: These findings add to the global taxonomic records, highlighting the unexplored biological richness of the Indian peninsula.

Subject: Economy Syllabus: GS Paper 3: Indian Economy and issues relating to planning, mobilization of resources, growth, development, and employment.

Context: In its latest ‘India Development Update’ released today, the World Bank upgraded India’s economic growth forecast for the fiscal year 2026-27.

  • Revised Outlook: The forecast was raised to 6.6% from the previous estimate of 6.3%, primarily due to resilient domestic demand and robust infrastructure spending.
  • FY26 Performance: India is projected to close the current fiscal year (2025-26) with a growth rate of 7.6%, maintaining its status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
  • Inflation Resilience: The report noted that the RBI successfully maintained inflation within the 4% (±2%) target range despite global oil and food price volatility.
  • Global Vulnerabilities: The World Bank warned that India must remain cautious of Middle East conflicts, which could weaken remittance flows and increase fuel import costs.
  • Recommendation: To sustain 7.5%+ growth, the bank suggested a further push in private sector investment and easing of regulatory bottlenecks for MSMEs.

Topic 6: Total Consensus Reached on Integrated Theatre Commands

Subject: Defence Syllabus: GS Paper 3: Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate.

Context: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, announced today that all three services (Army, Navy, Air Force) have reached a total consensus on the structure of Integrated Theatre Commands.
