  • India and Ukraine discussed a ‘peace formula’ for resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine
  • The talks covered Ukraine-India Bilateral Relations and Global Security Both parties showed interest in energising the bilateral relationship with new projects
  • Ukrainian demands Complete withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine, including Crimea (which Russia annexed in 2014)
  • This adheres to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders
  • Russian stance Rejects the Ukrainian plan, claiming it doesn’t consider Russia’s concerns

2. INDIAN NAVY SEIZES HIJACKED IRANIAN VESSEL, RESCUES CREW

  • Indian Navy ships Sumedha and Trishul intercepted and freed a hijacked Iranian fishing vessel (FV), Al-Kambar, after forcing the pirates to surrender
  • This is the latest in a series of incidents of piracy in the Arabian Sea and off Somalia in the past few months near Socotra Island off the coast of Yemen
  • Hijacking of Malta-flagged merchant vessel MV Ruen on December 14
  • Al Ashkaan with 24 Pakistani crew members was hijacked earlier by seven Somali pirates on November 29
