Tamil Nadu:

The Supreme Court has recommended the appointment of Munishwar Nath Bandari, the Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court, as the new Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court.

India:

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Economic Survey 2021-22 in Parliament on January 31, 2022.

The central theme of the 2021-22 Economic Survey is the “Active Approach”.

According to the NSO’s first advanced estimates, the Indian economy is projected to grow by 9.2 per cent in real terms in 2021-22 (current financial year).

Real-time GDP is projected to grow by 8-8.5 percent in 2022-23 (FY23).

Tata Steel Long Products Limited (DSLP), a Tata group company, has acquired Odisha-based Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) for Rs. 12,100 crore.

Nilachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) is a steel plant located in Kalinganagar, Odisha, which closed in March 2020 due to continuous losses. It has a capacity of 1.1 million tons per year.

NINL is a joint venture of 4 CPSEs – MMTC, NMDC, BHEL, MECON and 2 Odisha Government Public Sector Undertakings – OMC and IPICOL.

GAIL (India) Ltd. has launched India’s first type of hydrogen blending project in the natural gas system in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

GAIL will supply this hydrogenated natural gas to Avantika Gas Limited for CNG retail automobiles and pipeline natural gas to homes in Indore.

India is committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. Mixing hydrogen with renewable energy will help achieve this goal.

World:

The government has appointed Lieutenant General Manoj Pandey as the new Deputy Commander of the Army.

He will take over from retired Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty on January 31, 2022.

Prior to this appointment, Lieutenant General Pandey was Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Army from June 01, 2021.

Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costo has been re-elected following the landslide victory of his center-left Socialist Party in the 2022 Portuguese assembly elections.

The Socialist Party won 117 seats in the 230-seat parliament.

Antonio Costo has been Portugal’s 119th Prime Minister since November 26, 2015.

In Honduras, Siomara Castro, a member of the Freedom and Refoundment Party (Libre), became the country’s first female president on January 27, 2022.

Castro, 62, has been appointed Honduras’ 56th president, replacing President Juan Orlando Hernandez.

Hernandez was in office for eight years, from 27 January 2014 to 27 January 2022.

Game:

Indian men’s hockey player PR Sreejesh has won the World Athlete of the Year award for 2021.

She is the second Indian to win the award after Rani Rambal. He won the award in 2020.

A total of 24 athletes from 17 countries were nominated for the annual awards based on individual or team performance.

Spain’s Alberto Guinness Lopez and Wushu’s Michael Giordano of Italy finished second.
