Multimodal Logistics Park in Assam

Recently, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, visited the construction site of India’s first International Multi-Modal Logistics park(MMLP) in Jogighopa, Assam, to review the progress made so far. Multi Modal Logistics Park is likely to Boost Connectivity in the Northeast.

What is the Scope of this Project?
  • The park is being developed under the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana of the Government.
  • This park is being made by National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
  • The park will be connected to road, rail, air, and waterways.
  • It is being developed in 317-acre land along the Brahmaputra.
  • Project is likely to unlock huge potential for the region along with neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.

1)One Minute Traffic Light Plan

The Indian city of Shimla will soon have a new traffic system aimed at easing traffic congestion during peak tourist and apple harvest seasons. According to the One Minute Traffic Light Plan proposed by the police, traffic lights will be installed at 10 bottlenecks to make the state capital jam-free. This will also reduce travel time across the city from 60-90 minutes to 15-25 minutes.

The proposed traffic system is based on time, number, and space. Vehicles will be released every minute in the ratio of 40:20 and 30:30 seconds, meaning they will be stopped for 40 seconds and released for 20 seconds during peak hours, and halted and released for 30 seconds during normal times. The new traffic system will also have a minimum halting distance of 500 metres.

2)Odisha Government’s Financial Assistance for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Patients

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a rare genetic disorder that affects approximately 1 in 3,500 boys worldwide. It is a progressive and incurable disease that leads to muscle weakness, loss of mobility, and ultimately, premature death. In India, the state of Odisha has taken a step towards helping DMD patients and their families by announcing financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for each patient for genetic tests and treatment at super-speciality hospitals.

The announcement of financial assistance by the Odisha government aims to provide support for the treatment of DMD patients. The funds can be utilized by the patients for genetic tests and treatment at super-speciality hospitals. Additionally, the DMD patients can use the financial assistance to meet the requirements towards an electric wheelchair and appropriate physiotherapy.

First Indian Air Force Heritage Centre

India’s Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, inaugurated the Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre in Chandigarh.

The Indian Air Force Heritage Centre is a joint project between the Union Territory administration and the IAF, as agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding signed last year.

The centre is the first of its kind and exhibits the IAF’s contributions in various wars, including the Balakot air strike and the 1965, 1971, and Kargil wars, through murals and memorabilia.With eight attractions including aircraft models and weapon displays, the biggest attraction is a flight simulator.

National Manufacturing Innovation Survey: Karnataka ranked the most ‘innovative’ State

A survey on the degree of innovation among manufacturing firms found that Karnataka, overall, is the most “innovative” State, followed by Telangana, and Tamil Nadu. The National Manufacturing Innovation Survey (NMIS) 2021-22, released earlier this month, also found that innovation in manufacturing is the lowest in the Northeastern states (excluding Assam), followed by Bihar.

Highlights

  • Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu had the highest share of innovative firms at 46.18 per cent, 39.10 per cent and 31.90 per cent, respectively, among the total manufacturing firms surveyed from the respective states, according to the report.
  • Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand reported the least share of innovative firms at 12.78 per cent, 13.47 per cent and 13.71 per cent, respectively.
  • Apart from Northeastern states, low-performing states include Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START)

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has recently launched an initiative to provide an overview of different aspects of Space Science and Technology to students. The program, named Space Science and Technology Awareness Training (START), is an introductory-level training program aimed at postgraduate and final-year undergraduate students of Physical Sciences and Technology.

The primary objective of the START program is to help Indian students become professionals in Space Science and Technology, as ISRO’s Space Science exploration program continues to expand into new domains. The program will provide a comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of the discipline, research possibilities, and professional pathways. The lectures will also cover topics related to the Indian Space Science exploration program and research opportunities in Space Science and technologies.
