1)UTSAH Portal and PoP Portal

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken significant steps towards improving the quality and effectiveness of higher education in India. Two new portals, namely the ‘UTSAH’ portal and the Professor of Practice (PoP) portal, have been launched with the aim of promoting transparency, access, and collaboration within the higher education sector. These initiatives align with the National Education Policy 2020 and its strategic goals.

The UTSAH portal, launched by UGC, is designed to effectively track and support the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and its strategic initiatives in Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). It offers an all-encompassing platform that allows stakeholders to obtain comprehensive information regarding UGC’s initiatives and efforts towards enhancing the quality of higher education. The user-friendly interface and categorized information make it easier for students, faculty, and universities to navigate and find relevant resources.

2)Carbon Dating

Recently, the Allahabad High Court allowed the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct Carbon Dating of a ‘Shivling’ inside the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

  • The petitioners have claimed the object inside the Gyanvapi mosque to be a “Shivling”. The claim was disputed by the Muslim side, which said the object was part of a “fountain”.
  • It set aside an order of the Varanasi District Court that rejected a plea for scientific investigation, including carbon dating, of the structure.

INS Mormugao Successfully Fires Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile

The Indian Navy achieved a significant milestone as the guided missile destroyer INS Mormugao successfully conducted its maiden firing of a Brahmos Supersonic cruise missile. The firing, which resulted in hitting the ‘Bulls Eye,’ showcased the Navy’s self-reliance and enhanced firepower at sea. INS Mormugao, named after the historic port city of Goa, has been a remarkable addition to India’s naval fleet since its first sea sortie in December 2021.

Geeta Rao Gupta appointed as US Ambassador at Large for Global Women’s Issues

The US Senate has approved Geeta Rao Gupta, an Indian American, as the Ambassador at Large for Global Women’s Issues in the State Department. In a tweet, the department expressed its eagerness for Gupta to use her efforts to advance women and girls’ rights through US foreign policy. With a vote of 51 to 47, the US Senate confirmed Gupta earlier this week.
