1)PM Modi inaugurates International Museum Expo 2023

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said his government has prioritised preservation of the country’s heritage and lamented that enough efforts were not made in this direction post Independence.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the International Museum Expo 2023 at Pragati Maidan here, he also flagged the issue of “smuggling and appropriation” of ancient Indian artefacts, while asserting that amid India’s growing prestige in the world, various countries have now started returning heritage artefacts belonging to India.

Modi cited examples of the statue of Maa Annapurna that was stolen from Varanasi, which has come back to country, the statue of Mahishasurmardini from Gujarat, the idols of Nataraja built during the Chola Empire, and the sword decorated with the name of Guru Hargobind Singh Ji.

2)New Rules for M&A in MSMEs and Startups

India has recently implemented comprehensive revisions to the rules governing mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in the startup space. These updates aim to streamline and expedite the approval process, providing a faster and simpler route for M&As in the startup and MSME sectors. The corporate affairs ministry (MCA) has introduced clear time limits, provisions for deemed approval, and emphasized the importance of public interest. With these changes set to take effect on June 15, the startup sector is poised to experience significant growth and revitalization.

The revamp of M&A rules in the startup space is viewed as a significant catalyst for the sector’s growth. With a faster and simpler process, startups can pursue strategic mergers and acquisitions more efficiently, unlocking opportunities for expansion, collaboration, and innovation.

UP’s 5G Technology Training Programme

The Uttar Pradesh government is taking a significant step towards enhancing skill development opportunities by launching a 5G technology training programme under its Skill Development Mission. This initiative aims to equip the youth with the necessary skills in new and future employable technologies, recognizing the importance of 5G technology in shaping the telecom sector and the future economy.

Courses Offered for Skill Development

The 5G technology training programme offers three courses to equip candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills. These courses include Telecom Rigger – 5G and Legacy Networks, Technician 5G – Active Network Installation, and Project Engineer – 5G Networks. Each course focuses on different aspects of 5G technology, providing specialized training to cater to diverse job roles and requirements.

YSR Matsyakara Bharosa Scheme

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has recently released ₹123.52 crore under the YSR Matsyakara Bharosa scheme. This initiative aims to provide crucial financial assistance to fishermen and their families during the annual ban period on marine fishing.

The government’s commitment to the fishing community extends to skill development and welfare measures. The establishment of the AP Fisheries University in West Godavari district aims to produce skilled human resources for the industry. Aquaculture farmers benefit from subsidized power rates of ₹1.5 per unit, while fishermen receive a subsidy of ₹9 per liter of diesel, further supporting their economic well-being.

Wholesale Price Index

The latest data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry reveals that the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in India fell to a near three-year low with deflation rate of (-) 0.92% in April, marking its entry into negative territory after 33 months.

The decline in the rate of inflation in April 2023 is primarily contributed by fall in prices of basic metals, food products, mineral oils, textiles, non-food articles, chemical & chemical products, rubber & plastic products, and paper & paper products.

What is Wholesale price Index

It measures the changes in the prices of goods sold and traded in bulk by wholesale businesses to other businesses.

Semi-Cryogenic Engine Tests

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation has successfully commenced testing of its semi-cryogenic engines.
  • The very first integrated test on an intermediate configuration of the 2000 kN (Kilonewton) semi-cryogenic engine carried out.
  • This test conducted in newly-commissioned Semi cryogenic Integrated Engine and Stage Test facility at ISRO Propulsion Complex at Mahendragiri in Tamil Nadu.
